Who Are We?

I bought this 60-acre property in 2007. The house was a 1970s-style ranch that had to be completely gutted and remodeled. During the warmer seasons, I would clear about an acre of trees (mostly pine) and start to learn how to homestead.

I raised chickens and pigs, kept bees, did some gardening, and dug ponds.

Cynthia joined me shortly thereafter and tried her brand of homesteading. Which meant trying everything, and then fixing what went wrong and enhancing what went right.

Over the past fifteen years, we have learned some skills that have left us more supported by the land, and less dependent on the grocery store.

We had a major upgrade to the property when we tore down the old house and built a new house with space that would be dedicated to starting a school to teach people what we have learned.

That is Garnet School.
