Great Books of the Western World Discussion Group
August 11 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm
Garnet School in Candia is now hosting the Great Conversation!
Have you ever wanted to read the Great Classics, but never knew exactly where to begin? Or have started to read them with the best of intentions, but stopped as many times, due to lack of motivation or discipline? Now’s your chance to finally accomplish these goals, to gain a greater understanding of the world around you, by meeting weekly with like-minded people to read and discuss.
Commitment is about 20 minutes of reading per day, links will be provided for free versions of PDFs, facsimiles, or audiobooks. Of course you can buy the books, or even borrow from your local library. Most times we are reading selections from a variety of a handful of books, each selection building upon the previous, to provide greater understanding and enjoyment.
We meet weekly in Candia, at 4:30 on Sunday. Tea and light refreshments are offered, $5 suggested donation. Reading selections are discussed for about an hour, then 30 minutes for light chit-chat.
We are a friendly group of 8-10 guys and gals, a variety of ages, and we’d love for you to join us on our reading and discovery journey!
We are finishing up Plutarch’s Alexander, and generally discussing ancient Greek texts as they are brought up within the group. https://classics.domains.skidmore.edu/lit-campus-only/primary/translations/Plutarch%20Alex.pdf
www.gutenberg.org, librivox.org and archive.org are all great sources for finding a variety of the Classics online, for free.
